About RTI

Article 21 (1) (f) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana prescribes that, “All persons shall have the right to information, subject to such qualifications and laws as are necessary in a democratic society”.

A blueprint to implement this clause birthed the RTI Act 989 (Act 2019).

The Right to Information (RTI) Act provides a legal framework that guarantees citizens the right to access information held by Public Institutions. The RTI Act (Act 989) seeks to lay down systems and procedures for ensuring effective access to information for every person, including Government Agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGO’s) and other relevant private institutions.

The Ghana Grid Company LTD. (GRIDCo) is, therefore, positioned to accept and process all applications for information, subject to the exemptions that are necessary and consistent with the Act.

In compliance with this law, GRIDCo’s RTI Desk – located within the Corporate Communications Section, under the supervision of the Director of Legal – is operational.
