In a strategic move to explore innovative energy solutions, a delegation from the Commercial Team of the West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited (WAPCo) made a working visit to the GRIDCo Head Office. The visit aimed at enhancing collaboration and sharing technical expertise on power generation in Ghana.
At a crucial phase of thermal power production and related issues, the engagement sought to explore GRIDCo’s operations in the electricity network, address specific technical challenges and leverage on data for operational improvement to make future projections. Also, the visit set the stage for reinforcing the existing partnership between the two institutions and pave way for new opportunities for knowledge sharing and expertise for the mutual benefit of both companies and the energy value chain.
A key highlight of the visit was a tour of the System Control Centre (SCC). The WAPCo team had the opportunity to understand the real-time dispatching of electricity and better appreciation of GRIDCo’s role within the power delivery chain. The presentation was led by Manager, Systems Control Centre, Ing. Stephen Debrah.
Ing. Debrah also delivered a presentation on the electricity demand forecast for the year 2024, and a projection of natural gas required to run thermal plants to meet the demand of the electricity market. He used the opportunity to discuss a working visit to WAPCo control room for GRIDCo’s Operations, Planning Engineers, and Dispatchers.
WAPCo’s gas pipelines, laid from Nigeria through Benin, Togo and Ghana, play a crucial role in the energy value chain by evacuating natural gas from Nigeria through to Ghana to serve the power plants. This role amongst others, facilitates the regional distribution of natural gas, which is a more efficient energy source.
In attendance from WAPCo were, Rahul Kumar, the General Manager of Commercial and Business Development; Dickson Kwaku Osei, Deputy Manager, Corporate Planning; Kwamina Abaka-Kwansa, Commercial & Business Development Analyst, and Bartimus Neequaye, Commercial & Business Development Assistant.
Present from GRIDCo were, Ing. Frank Okyere; Manager System Control Centre, the Director of System Operations; Ing. Stephen Debrah, Manager Dispatch Operations; Ing. Wofa Kwarteng, and Obed Essandoh, Ag. Manager Market Operations.
