GRIDCo Board Chairlady, Kuukua Maurice Ankrah, together with Members of the Board, participated in an engagement with the Electricity Market Oversight Panel (E.MO.P.) on the development and implementation of the Ghana Wholesale Electricity Market (GWEM). The meeting was held at the invitation of EMOP.

The session provided the Board with deeper insight into the structure, governance and performance of the evolving electricity market, as well as EMOP’s oversight and advisory functions.

Discussions centred on strengthening electricity trading and system operations through transparency, efficiency, competition and accountability. The GWEM, established under the Electricity Regulations, 2008 (L.I. 1937), was highlighted as a key framework for enabling competitive electricity trading in Ghana.

Addressing the meeting, Chairlady acknowledged the implementation of the GWEM as, an important milestone in the transformation of Ghana’s electricity supply industry.

The engagement also underlined GRIDCo’s central role in transmission, system operations and market administration, and the importance of continued collaboration in building a reliable, efficient and sustainable electricity market.
