A delegation from Enclave Power Company, (EPC), a power distribution company, serving the Free Zone Enclave, has completed a two-day study tour of GRIDCo’s Pokuase Bulk Supply Point (BSP) and the B5Plus Substation at the Larkpleku’s new site.

The technical study tour is to understand the performance parameters of some transformers within the GRIDCo network and identify any approaches that could improve the performance of transformers within the Enclave Power distribution network.

Led by its General Manager, Ing. Matthew Seddoh Akatey, the first stop of the seven (7) member EPC delegation was the Pokuase BSP, where they held a lengthy technical engagement with the GRIDCo team, led by Ing. Daniel Laryea Annan.

The group spent time in the control room with Ing. Alfonse Ackon delivering a presentation on the operational set up of the Pokuase Substation; which areas are served and future plans for expansion to serve more areas.

Subsequently, the team moved into the switch yard, where Assistant Chief Technician Engineer, (ACTE) Michael Koranteng explained the workings of the transformers and its maintenance. The final visit was to the relay room, where the EPC delegation had questions about relay operations and the billing of power transmitted.

At the B5Plus Substation, the delegation was hosted by GRIDCo engineers Aaron Tetteh, (ACTE) Francis Koomson, Principal Electrical Engineer, and Eric Kudor, (ACTE), who highlighted the station’s performance and its role in delivering reliable power supply.

The engagement further explored operational challenges, such as load fluctuations within industrial environments, the impact of demand variability on transformer performance, and measures implemented to minimise outages and maintain power quality. Discussions also touched on coordination between protection systems and control processes to ensure rapid response to faults.

Ing. Akatey expressed gratitude to all GRIDCo engineers for their support in facilitating their visit. He noted that the visit had provided them with valuable operational perspectives, which will improve operations at their facilities.

Present from the EPC were, General Manager, Ing. Matthew Seddoh Akatey, Engineering & Operations, Mr. Henry Hlorgbey – Area Manager, Helios Solar, Mr. Agbesi Wodokpui – Area Manager, Dawa, Mr. Albert Aggrey – Metering, Billing & Revenue Protection Engineer, Mr. Richard Tekpor – System Planning and Development Engineer and Mr. Wisdom Tamakloe – Electrical Project Engineer.

The GRIDCo Team present at the Pokuase BSP were, Ing. Daniel Laryea Annan – PC Supervisor, ACTE, Michael Koranteng – Electrical Maintenance Supervisor, Anthony Seshie – Electrical Maintenance, Ing. Alfonse Ackon – Operating, Ing. Robert Ben-Smith – Principal Technician Engineer.

At B5Plus, the GRIDCo Team was represented by, Aaron Tetteh – Assistant Chief Technician Engineer, Francis Koomson – Principal Electrical Engineer and Eric Kudor Assistant -Chief Technician Engineer,
