Phase Two of the Akosombo Switchyard Restoration Project is steadily progressing, with teams installing additional control cables between the switchyard and the Akosombo Generating Station.
As part of the works, control cables of various sizes have been laid through designated cable trenches, linking key switchyard bays and plant units, including A4G/1T4, A1AA/1T1 and A2AE/1T2.
Additional cables have also been installed from the switchyard’s marshalling kiosks to the new temporary control room. The Protection and Control Team has completed extensive wiring on relay panels to support the integration and operation of the protection and control systems.
These activities mark an important step in the transition from the old makeshift control building to the temporary control room. The works aim to restore operational reliability and ensure the safe, efficient and dependable transmission of power through the Akosombo Switchyard.
The progress achieved so far, reflects the efforts of GRIDCo’s engineers, technicians, drivers and support teams, who continue to work under demanding conditions to restore this critical national asset. Their expertise, teamwork and commitment have been vital to moving the project forward.
