Recently, GRIDCo deployed its Right-of-Way (RoW) Task Force to engage individuals, traders, garage and repair shop operators, mechanic welders, chop bar operators and others illegally occupying GRIDCo’s transmission line corridor.
This follows a directive from the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr. John Jinapor during a working visit to inspect a damaged tower Ashaiman on 13th August, 2026, he gave an ultimatum to encroachers to vacate the transmission line RoW by 12 September, 2026.
GRIDCo’s RoW Task Force carried out the campaign in Nhyiaeso, Ahodwo Roundabout, Adiebeba, Ahodwo, Sokoban, Ejisu, Bomso, Ayigya, Kentinkrono, Adako Jachie and the stretch along the Konongo–Kumasi (J2K) Line and surrounding communities. The exercise included media participation to provide first-hand coverage of how encroachment affects GRIDCo’s maintenance and operations.
The task force educated encroachers on the urgent need to vacate the area because of the risks to life and property. They also underscored the importance of keeping transmission corridors clear to enable GRIDCo’s maintenance teams to access them for repair and maintenance works without obstruction.
Although GRIDCo cleared the J2K corridor in 2022 for a line upgrade project completed in 2023, some residents have returned to the J2K transmission RoW corridor.
GRIDCo will soon extend the sensitisation exercise to the Western, Western North and Bono Regions and the other Regions.
