Since Thursday, 23rd April 2026 we have been in Phase 1 – ‘The Emergency Restoration Phase – of efforts to bring the Akosombo plant into operation. This is the phase where, we used an improvised connection philosophy to quickly bring up the Akosombo Units, as well as transmission lines at Akosombo.

I’m glad to say that today marks the end of Phase 1 of the works, as by God’s grace, we have managed to bring up all the generators and transmission lines that are in Akosombo. To commemorate the achievement, I arranged with the Area Manager for us to have a heartwarming champagne-popping ceremony with the staff.

We were gladly joined by the VRA Director, Hydro, Ing. Kwaku Sarpong, Rev. Professor Samuel Oheneba-Dunyo, the clinical psychologist, who came in, to hold counselling sessions with those traumatised by the fire incident.

As we end this phase, we will immediately activate Phase 2, which involves the mounting of a number of 40-footer containers to serve as a temporary Control Room. This will house the control/protection/metering panels for use to restore full scale control and protection at the Akosombo substation, pending the construction of an ultra-modern control room, which would then be phase 3, to replace the burnt one.
