GRIDCo’s Management and Staff rolled up their sleeves to participate in full compliance with the maiden National Cleaning Day to clear blocked drains and clean up the office area. The national directive is a follow up to flooding after recent heavy rains. No one was left out; the C.E., Directors, Managers and Staff all participated in a comprehensive clean-up exercise at the Head Office and Operational Areas on Friday July 10, 2026.
The Director of Human Resources, (DHR), Mr. Isaac Mumuni, set the tone for the event, emphasising the importance of collective responsibility and national unity in addressing environmental challenges. He reminded staff that the directive spanned two (2) days: “It’s a two-day activity, [covering] our corporate environment, and localities.”
Before the work began, the Company Secretary, Mrs. Ama B. Haywood-Dadzie, was invited to lead the team in prayer, placing the event under divine guidance. The opening invocation marked the beginning of an activity rooted not only in civic duty but also in shared values of discipline, humility, and collective responsibility.
Staff were organised into three operational groups to cover the head office and surrounding areas, each led by the Chief Executive and his Deputies. Group 1 was led by C.E. Otchere, who was assigned to the area around the security post. DCE for Finance & Resources, Ing. Samuel Nkansah took charge of Group 2, responsible for the “TT Brothers” zone, while the DCE for Engineering & Operations took charge of Group 3, covering the Procurement Area.
The clean-up was more than a routine task, it was a holistic initiative combining sanitation, environmental beautification, and physical wellness. Staff cleared blocked drains, removed accumulated waste, and planted flowers to further beautify the landscape. The dual purpose of the activity, promoting both environmental hygiene and team fitness was widely acknowledged.
The C.E. visibly engaged throughout the exercise, commended staff for their commitment to the campaign, “It’s been beautiful. I’ve gone almost everywhere… it was beautiful to see all of us, irrespective of your status, getting down to do the work. And that’s what this is all about. When it comes to cleanliness, we are all responsible.” He linked the effort directly to national leadership, “By honouring this, you have actually honoured the President himself, because he asked us to do this.” He urged everyone to extend the spirit of service into their communities: “Tomorrow morning, try to partake in any communal labour in your community. When we clean our nation, I am sure that we’ll be better prepared for the next floods and the next activities,” he added.
C.E. suggested that, the national cleaning exercise be institutionalised saying, “Maybe every quarter, as an institution, we’ll do this once a quarter… We could add a health walk to it. Even if we walk to Smelter 2 and come back, I’m sure you’ll be adding some 2 years, 3 years to your life, and it will help.” The suggestion was met with enthusiastic applause.
There was a visible leadership presence from Directors from Corporate Strategy, Audit, Finance, System Operations, GRIDTel, and Engineering, all of whom actively participated in the exercise. The event concluded with a closing prayer delivered by Mr. Joseph Kwesi Kai.
GRIDCo’s participation in the national clean-up was not just a compliance exercise, it was a powerful demonstration of unity, discipline, and civic pride. By combining national duty with wellness, teamwork, and environmental care, GRIDCo has set a benchmark for institutional responsibility. The 10th July, 2026 exercise stands as a testament to what can be achieved, when leadership leads, and staff follow, not out of obligation, but out of shared purpose.
