As a follow-up to the recent Management Team’s visits to some GRIDCo project sites in the Upper East and Bono Regions, we present an update on two (2) Substations and Transmission Line projects, which GRIDCo is executing in the Kumasi Operational Area in the Ashanti Region.
GRIDCo’s 161kV Konongo-Kumasi (J2K) Transmission Line project, which involves the reconstruction of a 24km section of the existing 161kV single circuit transmission line from Konongo to Kumasi to a double circuit line is progressing steadily. Stringing of the line was also in progress during the time of the visit. Contractors on site delivered a progress report to the Management Team during which they also mentioned the need for more support to complete the work, which is expected to be completed by the 3rd Quarter of the year.
Meanwhile, significant progress has been made to complete the relocation of the 250MW Ameri Power Plant to Kumasi to improve supply in the middle and northern belts of Ghana.
GRIDCo is supporting this endeavour with the development of Two (2No.) vacant bays at the existing 161kV Anwomaso Substation into 161kV transmission line bays. This will facilitate the evacuation of the 250MW Ameri Power Plant upon commissioning it into service.
