It was a wonderful celebration of female professionals and womanhood at the 2024 International Women’s Day event, organised by the GRIDCo Ladies Association (GRIDLASS) for all female staff of the Company.
In attendance were Director, Technical Services, Ing. Bernard Gyan who chaired the event; a Patron of GRIDLASS, Director, Human Resources, Ms. Florence Agyei, as well as male allies; Ag. Director SND, Ing. Hussaini Adams; Director Land Management, Ing. Bismark Anane; Director, Project Implementation Unit, Ing. Nicholina Yembilla and Company Secretary, Mrs. Ama Haywood-Dadzie.
In his remarks, Ing. Gyan urged all GRIDCo Ladies to have confidence in their capacity to deliver on their professional and domestic work effectively saying, “Inclusivity starts from us feeling capable, not inferior”.
Solidarity messages came from the Divisional Union Chair, Francis Adjartey and SSA Chairman Wisdom Adenyo challenged GRIDCo’s female staff not to accept tokenism in their quest to have a seat at the table.
In her remarks, Director, HR, Ms. Florence Agyei commended the GRIDLASS Leadership, [led by Mrs. Azara Amadu] for its vibrance since being sworn into office, noting that they have strategically positioned GRIDLASS. She indicated that GRIDCo has passed its Gender Policy saying, “Let us continue to advocate for women and each other [at work], support, mentor and empower ourselves in a true collegiate manner”. She added that, with the completion of the competency framework, female staff should familiarise themselves with it so, one knows what must be done to improve on themselves to transition into the roles they aspire to.
The event was in two parts, with Guest Speaker, Ing. Mrs. Harriet Amissah-Arthur delivering the keynote, while a workshop took place afterwards.
Ing. Mrs. Amissah-Arthur tasked GRIDCo ladies to find ways to include themselves and not wait for anyone to include them in various activities, whether at work or at home. She charged them to set a vision of success for themselves explaining, “It is only when you decide what success is to you that you can give off your best to your family, the workplace etc”.
In her presentation she advised; a) Take the little we have and make something of it; (b) Take advantage of available resources: (c) Do not despise small beginnings and (d) Have passion.
Meanwhile, Chief Executive, Ing. Ebenezer Kofi Essienyi congratulated all the women of GRIDCo on the occasion of IWD 2024. In his remarks, delivered by Ing. Bernard Gyan, CE commended the many male allies in GRIDCo, who have played roles of Mentors, Advocates and supporting female colleagues in GRIDCo adding, “I urge you to do more because, with our support, our women will thrive” with the needed investment.
The event brought together GRIDCo’s female staff from all the Operational Areas and embodied great camaraderie and fun with lots of dancing and cheers.
