In May, GRIDCo hosted Two (2) lecturers and (15) students from Ghana Communication Technology University for a facility visit at its Head Office in Tema.
Welcomed by the Manager Corporate Communications, Mrs. Dzifa Bampoh, the tour began at the System Control Centre (SCC) where Ing. Stephen Debrah, Manager Dispatch Operations, explained the Company’s role as the System Operator.
He gave a detailed breakdown of how electricity is generated, transmitted and distributed to reach its end users and explained the role of each of the power utilities in the Electricity value chain.
The final stop of the trip was the Smelter II substation where the Operating Supervisor, for Tema Operational Area, Aaron Tetteh led the tour and explained the function substations play in the power transmission system, highlighting Smelter II’s unique role in Ghana Interconnected Transmission System.
At both the System Control Centre and Smelter II Substation, students had the opportunity to ask questions and engage in discussions, enhancing their understanding of GRIDCo’s operations and Ghana’s Power Sector in general.
Dr. Adeti and Dr. Afoakwa of the Engineering Faculty, who accompanied the students, expressed their profound gratitude for the insightful tour, which offered the students the opportunity to see practical applications of what they had been lectured on in class.
