During Management’s recent tours of GRIDCo’s Operational Areas, they took some time off to undertake site visits to apprise themselves of the progress of works on some ongoing Substation and Transmission Line Projects.
The Substation and Transmission Line projects of interest are:
• Construction of 161kV HV Powerline and Substation; Newmont Ahafo North, Bono Region.
• 161kV Transmission line and Substation Project; Cardinal Namdini, Bolgatanga, UE Region.
• Reconstruction of 24km 161kV Konongo- Kumasi (J2K) Transmission Line; Kumasi, AR.
• Provision of Two (2No.) 161kV Transmission Line Bays at Anwomaso Substation; Kumasi, AR.
We share updates from ongoing works at two (2) project sites in the Bono and Upper East Regions.
At the Newmont Ahafo North Project site in Bono, Management staff were updated on steps taken to facilitate civil works for the construction of a 161kV Substation which will feed the mine and ultimately facilitate full mining operations at Ahafo North, which is earmarked to commence by the end of 2024.
At the Cardinal Namdini gold mining firm, Bolgatanga site, work had progressed significantly since GRIDCo Management’s last visit. The construction of foundations for the transmission towers for instance, had progressed significantly. The Contractor, JV XD-AA also shared a progress report, highlighting the schedules for equipment delivery, installation and commissioning.
Electricity delivery to the site is anticipated to start by the end of 2024.
