The Northern Network Department (NND) recently organised the second exercise this year to replace shattered glass insulation on some towers along the 330 kV Kintampo-Adubiliyili (KP6AD) Transmission Line.

Six (6) different teams from NND undertook the maintenance work on Sunday, 19th May 2024. The Line Maintenance crew from Sunyani, Kumasi, Dunkwa, Tamale and Bolga assisted the host Area, Techiman, to execute the exercise.

The exercise served as a training session for the newly engaged maintenance team. The works also aimed at maximising the outage time on the line, since the 330 kV line is critical for power evacuation to neighbouring Burkina Faso.

The Line Chief of the NND Directorate, Raphael Kornor, coordinated the exercise, while Ing. Lawrence Doe Zumedor, the Manager for Techiman Area facilitated the exercise and was actively on the field to boost the morale of the teams.

Overall, the exercise was smooth, however, the team encountered bees which had engulfed some of the towers along the stretch from the Kawampe to Portor villages along the line. Fortunately, there were bee-protective safety apparels for the Team, to avoid the risk of being stung.

Leaders of the teams were: Daniel Tukwah – Sunyani Sub-Area, Ofori Henaku – Kumasi Area, Anthony Danso – Dunkwa Sub-Area, Ing. Ken Amaale Atinga – Tamale Area, Francis Awuni – Bolga Area and Clement Koney – Techiman Area.
