A team of GRIDCo’s Engineers and Technician Engineers have successfully assisted Cardinal Namdini Mining in Bolgatanga to install and commission a 40MVAR Static Var Generator (SVG) at the Goldmine.

Static Var Generators are advanced power electronics devices used in electrical systems to regulate voltage, by absorbing and injecting reactive current. It also improves power quality.

The SVG operates like the two (2) SVCPLUS (STATCOMS) installed at the Tamale and Kasoa Substations. The commissioning took place on the 11th of January 2026, and the installation has enhanced voltage stability issues at Cardinal Namdini Substation, thereby facilitating brisk mining operations.

GRIDCo has worked collaboratively with Cardinal Namdini to extend power to their operational area, by successfully constructing a switchyard, transmission infrastructure and other network requirements, which benefit not just the mine, but also surrounding communities directly from the power infrastructure.

GRIDCo remains poised to collaborate with its stakeholders and provide maximum support to its clients.

The team was led by Ing. Nelson Awotwe, Principal Electrical Engineer (GRIDCo), supported by Benjamin Tsikata, Assistant Chief Technician Engineer, GRIDCo; Julius Kpongor, Supervising Technician Engineer, GRIDCo; David Mensah, Assistant Engineer, GRIDCo; Foster Boateng, Assistant Engineer, GRIDCo; Nana Kwame Boachie Yiadom, Assistant Engineer, GRIDCo, as well as staff from Cardinal Namdini, namely; Meng Xianyu, Principal Electrical Engineer, Namdini; Peter Ackah, Lead Electrical Engineer, Namdini; Peter Amoah, Lead Automation Engineer, Namdini.
