In collaboration with the Operational Area Welfare and the Area Senior Staff Association (SSA), the Takoradi Area staff organized an educational outing in collaboration to visit the Karpowership, docked at Sekondi Naval base in the Western Region. This visit aimed to familiarize the staff with the operations of the Karpower plant and build a positive relationship with the Karpowership’s team.
During the visit, Ms. Michelle Hazel, the Project Manager, and Ing. Samih, the Plant Manager, demonstrated the functions of the floating power ship. The Karpowership has an impressive installed capacity of 470MW and operates on natural gas from Ghana Gas (Atuabo), with a contractual capacity of 450MW. The ship plays a crucial role by generating 450MW of power and supplying it seamlessly to the National Grid via the 330kV transmission lines linked to the Aboadze enclave.
Notably, the Karpowership in Ghana stands out globally with its substantial measurements: 300 meters in length, 50 meters in breadth, and a towering height of 65 meters. The Takoradi Area staff, led by Mr. Sammy Odjatey, Chairman of Takoradi Area SSA, and Ing. Anthony Amuzu, P&C Engineer, actively participated in this enlightening tour.
