GRIDCo Management and Staff once again gathered at a special Thanksgiving Service to acknowledge the Company’s evolution and the grace that has sustained it over the years. The programme also highlighted the Company’s impact on the energy sector so far, while honouring the efforts of past and present staff who have contributed to its mission since 2008.
The commemorative service, themed “What Shall We Render, for All the Mercies Shown”, was held at the forecourt of System Control Centre, (SCC), in Tema featured the GRID Band.
Delivering his first official address since assuming the role of Director of Human Resources, (DHR), Mr. Isaac Mumuni, welcomed staff to the event and expressed a heartfelt commitment to work with all at GRIDCo. Reflecting on GRIDCo’s 17-year journey, Mr. Mumuni described it as one filled with vision, purpose, and a commitment to excellence, shaped by challenges, growth, and transformation. He underscored the faithfulness of God throughout GRIDCo’s evolution, and called on staff to turn gratitude into continued dedication, unity, and service.
He also paid tribute to both past and present employees whose efforts have shaped the Company’s legacy, and reaffirmed HR’s commitment to supporting staff to cultivate a workplace rooted in GRIDCo’s values of Responsiveness, Integrity, Safety, Excellence, and Care.
He spoke of fostering a culture where staff feel empowered, equipped, and supported to thrive. Mr. Mumuni urged staff to see the occasion as more than a tradition, instead “Let it be a moment of renewal, a chance to reflect, reconnect, and reimagine our shared future with hope and determination”.
Deputy Chief Executive for Engineering and Operations, (DCE, E&O), Rev. Ing. Frank Otchere delivered a sermon; blending reflection, gratitude, and inspiration. He acknowledged God’s grace over the years, recalling the early days of the Company’s transition from VRA to GRIDCo amid uncertainty.
He recalled the doubts cast by some critics and the daunting energy crisis that followed GRIDCo’s formation, highlighting how divine intervention and perseverance saw the Company through. Emphasising what he termed the “God factor”, Ing. Otchere credited every milestone to divine guidance and reminded staff never to forget God’s role, even in times of success. In his exhortation, he introduced the “You factor,” underscoring the individual responsibility to serve with diligence and integrity, regardless of recognition or personal circumstances.
Rev. Ing. Otchere charged staff to work wholeheartedly, as unto God and not man, cautioning that reducing one’s effort due to dissatisfaction only weakens the very case one may be trying to make. Citing scripture, Ing. Otchere urged all to remain steadfast, unmovable, and committed to the work entrusted to them. As GRIDCo enters its 18th year, he called on every employee [engineers, administrators, operators et. all] to hold their part of the GRIDCo brand with pride, passion, and excellence.
Addressing the gathering, the Acting Chief Executive, Ing. Mark Baah expressed deep gratitude for the Company’s milestones over the past 17 years, crediting the success to the dedication and role of previous Boards, Management, and staff, both past and present, and the grace of God. Ing. Baah acknowledged the tireless contributions of personnel across the country including, those who could not be present due to ongoing operational commitments. Significantly, he paid tribute to former Management staff, mentioning the late former Chief Executive, Ing. Charles Darko – GRIDCo’s second Chief Executive, whose legacy has impacted the Company to date.
The Ag. C.E., highlighted the expansion of the transmission grid from 4,000 to 6,600 circuit kilometres; the growth of peak demand from 1,400MW to over 4,000MW, and the critical role GRIDCo has played in ensuring grid stability, even during national gas supply interruptions. Looking ahead, he emphasised the need for renewed investment of over $1 billion to prepare the grid for future demand and ensure continued reliability.
He outlined several upcoming infrastructure initiatives, including the reconstruction of the Anwomaso to Kumasi transmission lines, installation of high-capacity transformers and SVCs, and new interconnections with Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, and Mali. These, he said, would strengthen regional energy access and open new commercial opportunities for GRIDCo.
Ing. Mark Baah reaffirmed GRIDCo’s commitment to staff development and called on employees, to uphold the Company’s values of RISE and Care, “GRIDCo’s future depends on our unity, dedication, and vision, let’s work together to build a stronger, smarter, and more impactful GRIDCo”. To the younger generation, he urged them to leverage innovation for GRIDCo’s future.
On a lighter note, Ag. C.E., humorously likened the Company’s 17th anniversary to the cusp of adulthood, noting that “in Ghana, no one votes at 17 so, let’s wait for a more rewarding number”. However, he assured staff of better days ahead, citing signs of financial recovery and a commitment to addressing various issues, including system constraints.
In conclusion, this anniversary is a reminder that every step of the journey has been guided by divine providence. With hearts full of gratitude, we look forward to the years ahead, trusting in the Almighty’s continuous guidance, while we offer our lives in service, love and faithful stewardship.
To God be the glory for the things He has done.
Congratulations, GRIDCo@17 to Management and Staff!!!
