GRIDCo was honoured with two (2) awards at the 9th Ghana Energy Awards 2025, held on Friday, 28th November, 2025.

The event brought together distinguished policymakers, regulators, sister utilities, private-sector leaders, engineers, and energy professionals to celebrate exceptional performance across the power and petroleum value chain. This year’s event, themed “Repositioning the Energy Sector as a Pillar of National Development,” focused on strengthening the foundations of Ghana’s energy transition and promoting sector-wide collaboration.

Delivering the opening remarks, Chairman of the Awarding Panel, Kwame Jantuah, Esq., highlighted the evolving demands of the global energy landscape. He emphasised how rapid technological advancement, digitalisation, and artificial intelligence are reshaping energy needs, calling for stronger systems, improved generation and a balance between petroleum and renewable sources. He reaffirmed the panel’s commitment to integrity, transparency and rigorous assessments supported by technical experts and site visits. As he noted, “Tonight is a celebration of excellence but also of commitment, innovation and national progress.”

He applauded the sector for its resilience and encouraged continued industry-wide collaboration.

A major highlight of the night was the recognition of Hon. John Jinapor, Minister for Energy and Green Transition, who received the Special Energy Sector Reformer of the Year award. His citation praised his strong leadership in driving energy policy stability and advancing Ghana’s transition agenda. It emphasised his contributions as MP and former Deputy Minister for Energy, his advanced academic grounding in energy economics and public policy, and his roles on key national committees, including chairing the Nuclear Energy Programme Implementing Organisation. His commitment to research, international collaboration, and reform-minded leadership earned him recognition as a transformational figure in Ghana’s energy sector.

A message delivered by the Deputy Minister for Energy and Green Transition; Hon. Richard Gyan-Mensah on behalf of the Minister reinforced Government’s commitment to stabilising the energy sector. He highlighted improvements in fuel supply, renewed investor confidence, and a focused push toward renewable energy. He reassured stakeholders of Government’s dedication to building a resilient, efficient sector capable of driving national growth, emphasising that “We have a responsibility to keep the light on to power our industries, enlighten our hopes, and our path.”

GRIDCo enjoyed a strong showing at this year’s event. Ing. Spes Enyonam Gbeddy won the Rising Star Award (Female), recognising her technical excellence and leadership potential. Ing. Mrs. Alberta Mukaronda received the award on her behalf. The Company also received one of the top honours, namely; Energy Company of the Year (Power Category), accepted by the Deputy Chief Executive (Engineering & Operations), Ing. Frank Otchere, who dedicated the achievement to the hardworking GRIDCo team.
