In collaboration with Anglogold Ashanti Limited, a dedicated team from GRIDCo’s Kumasi Operational Area successfully completed the replacement of an obsolete Oil Circuit Breaker (OCB) on the Obuasi – New Obuasi (B3NB) 161kV line. The primary goal of this project was to enhance power delivery and reliability in Obuasi and surrounding bulk supply points.
The technical team accomplished the task by decommissioning the old 12B3NB Oil Circuit Breaker (OCB) and installing a new Dead Tank S6F gas (Sulphur Hexafluoride) Circuit Breaker, alongside new center break type disconnect switches. Additionally, they addressed other issues, such as rectifying and restoring malfunctioning switches. Remarkably, the entire project was completed within ten (10) days, a significantly shorter timeframe than the initially estimated three (3) weeks. The newly installed equipment was successfully commissioned into service on July 3, 2023.
Ing. Benjamin Ntsin, the Director of the Northern Network Department (NND), and Ing. Peter Acquah Jnr., the Kumasi Area Manager, expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the Maintenance Team for their exceptional efficiency and hard work in executing the project. Furthermore, the Chief Executive and Management commended the team for their professionalism and the successful implementation of the circuit breaker replacement works.
