The Lines and Telecommunications Maintenance team at Takoradi Area have successfully completed refurbishment work on the series of broken Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) Strands and rusted bolts on the first tower on Aboadze-Tarkwa (TT5R) transmission lines due to rust.
An optical ground wire (OPGW) is a type of cable that is used in overhead power lines, having the ability to combine the functions of grounding and communications.
Timely intervention to undertake this critical piece of work is to avoid complete failure of telecommunication links of the corporate and commercial telecommunications networks at Takoradi, Prestea, Kumasi and the Northern part of Ghana and eliminate the high risk it posed to users of the telecom network.
The Telecommunication Team was led by Messrs. Emmanuel Nugloze while Samuel Odoom led the Line Maintenance Team. The team also extends its special appreciation to the Southern Network Department’s Network Maintenance Manager, Ing. Hussaini Adams for the quick response in facilitating the execution of this emergency work to avoid the failure in the OPGW anticipated. Ayekoo for your swift action, Sir!
Congratulations to the entire Lines and Telecommunications Maintenance teams in the Takoradi Area for a job well done!
